Steelers Triumph Over Falcons with a 24-0 Victory

The Steelers wrapped up a flawless preseason with an ideal conclusion. Achieving a perfect 3-0 record, they secured convincing victories in all matches. The first-team offense exhibited its prowess by tallying two additional touchdown drives, maintaining a remarkable 5-for-5 record in touchdown scoring as a prelude to the 2023 season.

Remarkably, the Steelers also emerged unscathed from the preseason without any significant injuries to key players, an aspect of utmost importance.

During their final preseason clash at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Steelers asserted their dominance by shutting out the Atlanta Falcons with a resounding 24-0 triumph.

Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren spearheaded the first-team offense’s limited time on the field, culminating in touchdown runs. Harris and Warren showcased their prowess by leading the Steelers to a comprehensive victory.

Kenny Pickett contributed to the success by connecting on all four of his passes, amassing 86 yards, which proved pivotal in setting up the touchdown plays orchestrated by Harris and Warren. Pickett’s preseason performance stood at 13 of 15 for 199 yards, comprising two touchdowns and zero interceptions, culminating in an impeccable passer rating of 158.3.

Despite Atlanta fielding a lineup of reserves, the Steelers placed great significance on their commendable performance. This win served as an affirmation of their solid preseason preparations.

Reflecting on the victory, Pickett shared, “It was solidifying the preseason and finishing strong… We went 2-for-2 in touchdowns, so that’s a really good sign.”

The offense consistently demonstrated synergy with the defense and special teams, collectively contributing to the triumph. The team’s unity and collaborative effort were evident, with linebacker Alex Highsmith remarking, “Overall, it was a team win, all three phases did well.”

Coach Mike Tomlin transitioned to the second-unit offense after the initial phase, and the team continued to excel. The defense maintained its dominance, notching another three-and-out. Mitch Trubisky guided the offense, orchestrating scoring drives that added to the Steelers’ lead.

Throughout the game, the Steelers maintained a substantial lead in total yards, displaying their superiority on the field. The defense effectively preserved the shutout, even though it was against the Falcons’ backups.

In addition to the touchdowns, sacks by players like Watt, Roberts, Ndukwe, Roche, and rookie Herbig underscored the team’s defensive prowess. The Steelers’ comprehensive performance extended to their rushing attack, amassing 175 yards on the ground, with McFarland standing out with 55 yards, including an impressive 31-yard run.

As the preseason concluded, the Steelers emerged as a cohesive unit, ready to face the challenges of the upcoming season.
